Zhang Wufeng, former director of the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and dismissed from public office over serious violations of
Party discipline and laws, the country's top anti-graft body said Friday.
The decision came following an investigation by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision upon the approval of the CPC Central Committee. Zhang was also secretary of the leading Party members group of the administration.
Zhang is found to be disloyal and dishonest to the Party and resistant to official probes, according to a statement. He accepted gifts in violation of the eight-point decision on improving Party and government conduct, and breached Party rules in job promotion and transfers.
He is also found to have illegally started his own business, and held shares of publicly listed companies. Investigation also showed that he had engaged in private lending in pursuit of large returns, taken advantage of his positions to help others benefit from project contracting and bank loans, and obtained huge amounts of money and gifts in return.
These actions have gravely breached Party discipline and constitute significant violations of duty-related laws, the anti-graft body said, adding that Zhang is also suspected of criminal offenses of accepting bribes.
In line with Party regulations and laws, a decision has been made to expel Zhang from the Party, remove him from public office, and confiscate his illicit gains.
The case will be referred to the procuratorate for criminal investigation and prosecution, according to the anti-graft body.
