France grabs 2 golds in opening day of Tel Aviv Judo Grand Slam

France won two gold medals in the just-opening international Tel Aviv Grand Slam judo tournament on Thursday.

Olympic bronze medalist Luka Mkheidze won the men's

-60kg category of the competition, held in Israel's coastal city of Tel Aviv, after defeating Spain's Francisco Garrigos in the final.

The second French gold went to Blandine Pont, who beat Tamar Malca from Israel in the women's -48kg final.

Olympic bronze medalist Chelsie Giles of Britain won the women's -52kg category after beating Spain's Ana Perez Box by an ippon, while Canada's Jessica Klimkait overcame her compatriot Christa Deguchi in the -57kg final fight between two former world champions.

Lasha Nadiradze of Georgia won the men's -66kg category after upsetting Israel's Tal Flicker.

The tournament, organized by the International Judo Federation (IJF), will continue on Friday and Saturday.
