Beijing celebrated the successful completion of its 2022 "Charming Beijing" overseas communication project at a ceremony on Feb. 27, which also marked the start of the project in 2023.
The initiative
Since its launch in 2019, the project has attracted film crews from 10 countries to Beijing to shoot films and conduct interviews. Participating countries include Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Russia, Japan, Serbia, Italy, South Korea and Croatia. The resulting series were broadcast on state TV stations in those countries, receiving positive feedback.
The "Charming Beijing" overseas communication project 2022 focused on highlighting the Winter Olympics in the Dual Olympic City of Beijing. The project also marked the 2022 China-Italy Year of Culture and Tourism, as well as the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the Republic of Korea, and between China and Croatia. The project invited film crews from these three countries to conduct interviews in various locations, such as the Summer Palace, the Grand Canal in Tongzhou district of Beijing, and the Capital Museum. These interviews showcased the open, diverse, and thriving city from multiple perspectives.
The TV series produced by teams from Italy, South Korea and Croatia were shown during the ceremony.
