The deputy foreign ministers of Russia, Türkiye, Syria and Iran will meet in Moscow next week as part of the normalization process between Türkiye and

Syria, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Wednesday.

"A proposal came from Russia to hold a meeting at the technical level in preparation for a possible meeting of foreign ministers. We will also send our deputy minister to Moscow next week. We are planning to do this in a four-way manner," Cavusoglu said at a joint press conference with visiting Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in the capital Ankara.

The Turkish minister said Iran also welcomed the rapprochement talks and expressed its will to participate.

For his part, Amir-Abdollahian said Iran is ready to "take on its role to resolve the different points of view" between Syria and Türkiye "within the framework of regional cooperation."

On Dec. 28, 2022, the defense ministers and intelligence chiefs of Türkiye, Syria and Russia met in Moscow, where Turkish and Syrian officials talked for the first time as part of the efforts to ease the tension and restore the relations between the two countries.

The meeting in Moscow marked the first high-level contact between the two neighbors since 2011, when the Turkish government backed the rebels to topple the Syrian government following the outbreak of the Syrian civil war.
